The Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ

The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fullness of the Gospel. It testifies that Jesus is the Christ, the Savior of all mankind, and the Son of God. It declares the purpose of life on Earth.

The Purpose of Life taught through the Bible and The Book of Mormon

Q. Who am I?
A. You are a child of God, a spirit offspring of our Heavenly Father.
The Book of Mormon:
"Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be inhabited; and he hath created his children that they should possess it." I Nephi 17:36
"Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection - Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life." Alma 40:11
The Holy Bible:
"Ye are the children of the Lord your God..." Deuteronomy 14:1
"I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High." Psalm 82:6
"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God..." Acts 17:29
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God" Romans 8:16
Q. Where did I come from?
A. You came from the presence of God, and were given a physical body in the likeness of your spirit.
The Book of Mormon:
"And this is the manner after which they were ordained - being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works..." Alma 13:3
"But behold, the resurrection of Christ redeemeth mankind, yea, even all mankind, and bringeth them back into the presence of the Lord." Helaman 14:17
The Holy Bible:
"Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?" Job 38:4-7
Q. What is The Purpose of Life?
A. Your purpose in life here on Earth is to learn to love others with a Christ-like love, and to forgive others their trespasses. You are also here to gain a physical body and to be tried and tested to see if you will follow all the commandments of God.
The Book of Mormon:
"...the Lord God hath given a commandment that all men should have charity, which charity is love. And except they should have charity they were nothing..." 2 Nephi 26:30
"...who had taught them to keep the commandments of God, that they might rejoice and be filled with love towards God and all men." Mosiah 2:4
The Holy Bible:
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;" Matthew 5:44
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 13:35
Q. Where am I going after this life?
A. After this life you will go to the World of Spirits to await the great resurrection day when you will receive back a glorified body of flesh and bones, and stand before the judgment bar of Christ to be judged according to the desires of your heart, your thoughts, your words, and your actions.
The Book of Mormon:
"Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection - Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life. And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of those who are righteous are received into a state of happiness, which is called paradise, a state of rest, a state of peace, where they shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow. And then shall it come to pass, that the spirits of the wicked, yea, who are evil - for behold, they have no part nor portion of the Spirit of the Lord; for behold, they chose evil works rather than good; therefore the spirit of the devil did enter into them, and take possession of their house - and these shall be cast out into outer darkness; there shall be weeping, and wailing, and gnashing of teeth, and this because of their own iniquity, being led captive by the will of the devil." Alma 40:11-13
The Holy Bible:
"And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise." Luke 23:43
"How that he was caught up into paradise..." 2 Corinthians 12:4
Q. Who is Jesus Christ?
A. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is your Savior, your Redeemer, and your God.
The Book of Mormon:
"For according to the words of the prophets, the Messiah cometh in six hundred years from the time that my father left Jerusalem; and according to the words of the prophets, and also the word of the angel of God, his name shall be Jesus Christ, the Son of God." 2 Nephi 25:19
"Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name." 3 Nephi 9:15
The Holy Bible:
"But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." Acts 7:55,56
"Of this man's seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:" Acts 13:23
Q. What did Jesus do for me?
A. Jesus wrought out an infinite atonement in our behalf, so that all mankind will be resurrected with physical bodies. Those who have repented of their sins and sought to do good until the end of their lives, striving to keep all the commandments of God, will be received back into the presence of our Heavenly Father.
The Book of Mormon:
"And I, Nephi, saw that he was lifted up upon the cross and slain for the sins of the world." 1 Nephi 11:33
"Behold he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered." 2 Nephi 2:7
"Wherefore, it must needs be an infinite atonement - save it should be an infinite atonement this corruption could not put on incorruption. Wherefore, the first judgment which came upon man must needs have remained to an endless duration..." 2 Nephi 9:7
"For behold, and also his blood atoneth for the sins of those who have fallen by the transgression of Adam, who have died not knowing the will of God concerning them, or who have ignorantly sinned." Mosiah 3:11
"And he that saith that little children need baptism denieth the mercies of Christ, and setteth at naught the atonement of him and the power of his redemption." Moroni 8:20
The Holy Bible:
"For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." Matthew 26:28
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1:7
"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins." 1 John 4:10
"For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive." 1 Corinthians 15:21,22
Q. Are we saved by grace or by works?
A. We are saved by grace after all that we can do. There are no works that can save us. However, works demonstrate our love of our Savior, reconciling us to God, and thereby making His grace efficacious in our behalf.
The Book of Mormon:
"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, reconcile yourselves to the will of God, and not to the will of the devil and the flesh; and remember, after ye are reconciled unto God, that it is only in and through the grace of God that ye are saved." 2 Nephi 10:24
"For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do." 2 Nephi 25:23
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them." Ether 12:27
The Holy Bible:
"But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved..." Acts 15:11
"What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid." Romans 6:15
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8,9
"But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the alter? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?" James 2:20-22
Q. What is faith and do I need it?
A. True faith is centered in Jesus Christ. It is believing followed by action that demonstrates true conviction. Faith is essential in Heavenly Father's plan of happiness for us.
The Book of Mormon:
"And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God." 2 Nephi 9:23
"And there came a voice unto me, saying: Enos, thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou shalt be blessed. And I, Enos, knew that God could not lie; wherefore, my guilt was swept away. And I said: Lord, how is it done? And he said unto me: Because of thy faith in Christ, whom thou hast never before heard nor seen. And many years pass away before he shall manifest himself in the flesh; wherefore, go to, thy faith hath made thee whole." Enos 1:8
The Holy Bible:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Hebrews 11:1
"Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." James 2:17-19
Q. What is repentance? Is it necessary?
A. Repentance consists of admitting or confessing our sins and then forsaking them. We must repent of all our sins to enter the Kingdom of God.
The Book of Mormon:
"The Father having raised me up unto you first, and sent me to bless you in turning away every one of you from his iniquities; and this because ye are the children of the covenant..." 3 Nephi 20:26
"Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever." Mosiah 2:38
"Therefore, whoso repenteth and cometh unto me as a little child, him will I receive, for of such is the kingdom of God. Behold, for such I have laid down my life, and have taken it up again; therefore repent, and come unto me ye ends of the earth, and be saved." 3 Nephi 9:22
The Holy Bible:
"In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:1,2

"...that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance." Acts 26:20
Q. Do I need baptism?
A. Baptism by one having authority is essential to enter into the Kingdom of God.

"And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God." 2 Nephi 9:23
"And again the Lord called others, and said unto them likewise; and he gave unto them power to baptize. And he said unto them: On this wise shall ye baptize; and there shall be no disputations among you. Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words, and desireth to be baptized in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them - Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them. And now behold, these are the words which ye shall say, calling them by name, saying: Having authority given me of Jesus Christ, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. And then shall ye immerse them in the water, and come forth again out of the water. And after this manner shall ye baptize in my name..." 3 Nephi 11:22-27
The Holy Bible:
"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" Matthew 28:19

"Behold, the Lord hath created the earth that it should be inhabited; and he hath created his children that they should possess it." I Nephi 17:36
"Now, concerning the state of the soul between death and the resurrection - Behold, it has been made known unto me by an angel, that the spirits of all men, as soon as they are departed from this mortal body, yea, the spirits of all men, whether they be good or evil, are taken home to that God who gave them life." Q. Where did I come from?
A. You came from the presence of God, and were given a physical body in the likeness of your spirit.

"And this is the manner after which they were ordained - being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God, on account of their exceeding faith and good works..." Alma 13:3

"And they went out, and preached that men should repent." Mark 6:12
"...except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." Luke 13:3
"Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38
"...that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance." Acts 26:20

Q. Do I need baptism?
A. Baptism by one having authority is essential to enter into the Kingdom of God.
The Book of Mormon:
"And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God." 2 Nephi 9:23
